How much do St. Bernards usually weigh ?
It depends upon the Bloodlines that St. Bernard comes from whether it will be a large dog or one of the smaller dogs seen today. A St. Bernard shouldn't be a Dwarf in height or size.

This depends also on how large the dog is and of course it's own individual Metabolism, how active the dog is etc. And of course what particular diet a person has their dog on.

Are St. Bernards good for a child's dog?
Yes, they can be IF the family does raise the Saint from a puppy. They are usually really good with children. But, not all grown Saints that have never been around children will accept them, some will but not all will.

Do all St. Bernards Drool ?
All St. Bernards will drool some but they should never drool excessively, if the flews of their mouths are formed correctly. NO the is no such thing as a Dry Mouth St. Bernard. If you have a St. Bernard that doesn't drool at all chances are it looks more like a Collie, and doesn't have the correct shaped head or cut of lips, or the muzzle is incorrect.

Can a St. Bernard be raised in a house ?
NO, not all of the time, a St. Bernard must have lots of exercise while it is still growing and developing. They must be allowed to do their growing and developing outdoors with exercise. Now, once it is grown then it doesn't need as much exercise and yes, they do make good house dog's, for their families. But, it is critically important for them to be able to be outdoors while they are still growing, at least some of the time.

This will depend upon the Breeder and of course the Bloodlines the dog comes from and all breeders ask different prices for their puppies.

What determines how good or bad a puppy is ?
There are only two things that determine the Quality of any St. Bernard puppy. #1 The Pedigre it comes from and how well did those dog's it came from match up to the St. Bernard Breed Standard. #2 The Individual puppy/dog, and how well does it when grown match up to it's breed standard. These are the only two things that determine how good or bad a puppy really is. It shouldn't have anything to do with who you get your puppy from. True quality should be judged by these two things.

Is Hip Problems strictly genetic ?
No, there are many things that come into play when you are raising a St. Bernard puppy, throuugh out critical growth stress stages, and many other factors can contribute to the development of the puppy's structure besides just it's genetics. Such as diet, exercise and how fast a person will allow the puppy to grow. The whole environment can contribute to whether a puppy will develop good Hips or Bad ones.

Can a St. Bernard be raised with other breeds of dog's ?
Yes, if you get it from a puppy age, it can be raised up with older dog's, cats etc. But, a dog that is already grown and used to not having those other dog's around could be a problem. It all depends on the older Saint, and of course the temperament of your other dog's.

What is the lifespan of a St. Bernard ?
This too will vary with Bloodlines. There are some lines today that don't live very long at all, and some will pass on at 5-6 yrs. and other lines will live to around 10-12 yrs. So this all depends upon what Bloodlines you are talking about.

If you are looking for a Show puppy, or one that you may decide to breed later on or even a family pet, you want to buy the Best possible Bloodlines, and the Best possible individual a breeder will share with you. A Bloodline with good quality dog's through out the entire pedigree. Dog's that do match up to this Breeds Standard.
